Fair Stone

Social and environmental standards for natural stone imports

Most natural stones used in Europe come from Asia. However, the working conditions under which these natural stones are processed often do not meet European standards or the international standards of the ILO ( International Labour Organization ). Existing local laws regarding occupational health and safety and environmental protection are frequently simply ignored. A lack of protective clothing and inadequate safety precautions lead to work-related illnesses such as hearing loss, lung diseases ( silicosis ), and accidents, some of which may be fatal.

The international Fair Stone standard was developed to improve the situation in natural stone companies. Learn more about the origins of Fair Stone and the content of the  standard .
